Dinosaur Train – Paint and Match App Review

I am a huge fan of my children using their tablets, I adore the digital world we have in front of us and I adore how the children can learn so much from their devices.

I am a huge fan of my children using their tablets, I adore the digital world we have in front of us and I adore how the children can learn so much from their devices. We were recently asked to review the new ‘Jim Henson’ Dinosaur Train Paint and Match App, and as my 4 year old is dinosaur obsessed, I knew she would be the perfect little tester!

The app is available to download on both iOS and android devices, and both have the small price of 99p. This is an awesome price, think what you would get for 99p in a shop to amuse the children, nothing! I used to buy my children a magazine each week, but reality was they wanted the cheap plastic free gift on the front and the magazine was in the bin by the end of the week. Where as at least if I download an app, they get to keep it and get far more enjoyment out of it.

Opening the app I adore how easy it is for children to navigate, it’s self explanatory with pictures to illustrate what each game is, with cards for the match game and paintbrush for the paint game.

Going into the match game, you get a choice of the number of ‘train ticket’ cards to try and match up with Mr Conductor, this has an option of 6, 12, 16 or 20 cards. You then get 75 seconds to complete the game, which I have found is plenty in terms of small fingers navigating the cards. All of the cards have the characters from the ‘Jim  Henson’ show ‘Dinosaur Train’ and they all look different, so it’s not too difficult that children will get frustrated. It is brilliant for helping your child to use their memory as well as hand eye coordination.

The painting game has been Emma’s favourite, she adores picking one of the 24 pictures available. They all feature the Jim Henson Dinosaur characters, so you can pick your favourites. You are then set with a screen with a colour wheel to choose a paint colour, you can also choose to use a pen or a brush. There is also a handy eraser too. Finally, so you don’t have to lose your masterpiece, there is a handy camera button, so you can save the picture afterwards.

Finally, as if that wasn’t enough, if you pop into parents section, you can choose for the game to only play for a certain amount of time each session, there is an option for 10, 20, 30 minutes and also unlimited too. There is also a handy option to opt in, that sends you an email when your child has created a new drawing.

You can download the Dinosaur Train Match and Colour app from the iTunes store, or the Play Store. (click the links to go straight through)

This is just one of the many apps that Kuato Studios have created, check out their website www.kuatostudios.com for more apps featuring your childrens favourite characters.

We have been reimbursed for the review of this app, but all thoughts are my own.
