I love the Christmas spirit, and a visit to London is always pretty special at this time of the year. The kids adore the lights on Oxford Street and seeing Father Christmas is always a special treat as part of a day out. Walking past the chestnut stalls with the divine smell wafting out, and a cheeky eggnog latte is sure to set my Christmas spirit alight.

While London is about 45 minutes train ride away from us, we make a real long day of it. Leaving early on the train, getting togged up in our hats and scarves. A trip to Covent Garden is always great, the street entertainers are brilliant and the kids are in awe at the talent on display. While there, it’s also great to take a look for some bargains on London theatre tickets. There is loads of great theatre shows to take the kids to, which really extends the day and makes it even more special. We recently saw Shrek the Musical and that was brilliant. The kids loved seeing one of their favourite films come to life before their eyes, and the grand finale is one of the best I have ever seen.

The one I have my eye on for the toddler this year is Little Charley Bear and His Christmas Adventure at Ambassador Theatre. Marky loves Little Charley Bear and seeing this live is going to be the ultimate treat for him. It is suitable for children up to 7 years old, with tickets priced from £5 and shows right up to Christmas Eve.

For the older children, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory – The Musical looks brilliant. I have always loved the original film, so would love to see how this would transfer into a live show. It is on Drury Lane, so literally just round the corner from Covent Garden. Prices are a little higher for this, from £25 right up to £67.50, but the Royal Theatre has never disappointed me with a performance before.

If you are heading to the theatre this Christmas, let me know what you have seen and if you would recommend it.
