Holidaying in the UK

The kids have been pestering since we got home from our holiday last year when we will be going again, and to be fair I have been doing the exact same to my darling husband.

The kids have been pestering since we got home from our holiday last year when we will be going again, and to be fair I have been doing the exact same to my darling husband. I love getting away from the everyday life, such as school runs and routines, and it’s great for me and my husband to get some time to ourselves with the kids without the distractions of everyday life such as the pile of washing or even the hoovering.
It’s always a tricky thing booking a holiday, I like to go somewhere new but I always worry that the destination might be awful and be like something off of Holidays from Hell! There is always online reviews such as Trip Advisor, but I read those with a pinch of salt as realistically if you have an amazing holiday, or even an ok holiday, do you go to the effort to leave a mediocre review? Most people only leave a review for a holiday if it was absolutely awful. I do however have a fear of taking all the kids abroad to be stuck in a country where I don’t speak the language, and then having a problem. Not being able to communicate with people and get a problem resolved is my worst nightmare, although I do know there is some professional translation companies available which could come in handy.

As a result of my concerns and also with sons autism in the front of my mind, I have come up with a plan. Devon is a good 6 hours drive from us, but it’s still in England and if anything would go wrong at least we would be able to jump in the car and come home. I also have a couple of friends in Devon, one of which works at a hotel. It’s just two months until the kids get their wish come true and we can drive off,not jet off…into the sun (I hope!).
