We take many things for granted living in the UK. Housing, jobs and even the simple things such as electric and running water. It is scary to think that in 2015 we have countries in our world that still don’t have access to clean water or proper sanitation. Every year 443 million children in developing countries have sick days due to unsanitary toilet conditions. That is the equivalent of every child in the UK which attends school, missing school for 3 whole months. Scary huh? So what can we do to change this?

15 years ago World Toilet Day was launched, with Domestos being involved since 2009. Latest figures from  Domestos show that they have now reached 1,320,000 people through their behaviour change sanitation program, in this figure 655,000 are living in open defecation free communities. It’s more than just providing a short term solution, it’s about educating the communities on how they can stay safe. Their mission is to raise awareness of the sanitation crisis so they can help more people around the world to receive access to a toilet as soon as possible. Their target is to help 25 million people get access to basic sanitation by 2020, which is surely something that can be done in today’s modern world.

So what can you do to help? Well buy Domestos obviously, so they can continue to help support World Toilet Day,  but also just raise awareness by sharing this video. It could help people to understand and realise just hope important the issue is, and just how much still needs to change in 2015.

Watch it, feel it, share it.
