What do you think of when you think of home? Personally, as someone who lives 200 miles away from my parents, there is many things I miss about home, but the smell of my mothers roast chicken on a Sunday is definitely in my top three favourites. There is something really comforting in the aroma of those familiar flavours and smells, it’s amazing just how soothing it can be when you have been away from it.

It appears I am not alone, research commissioned by Knorr shows that flavour can make people happy and comforted. A huge 75% of people asked agreed that just one mouthful of their mums home cooking, is enough to bring back happy childhood memories. A whopping 82% of people say the taste of some foods remind them of their childhood, and I have to say I am definitely one of them, I can transport myself back to the care free days of primary school with some of the foods from the 1980’s, a time when my only concern was if I was allowed out to play. Knorr know how important it is to people to get their Flavour of Home, and they wanted to show that flavour is so important and this video that they have created really does show just how special it can be to get a taste of home even when you are so far away…

I don’t know about you, but that is really lovely and heart warming to watch. I am sure we all have some flavours and smells that really do remind us of our loved ones, and it is easy to create for yourself. Carmen may be a few thousand more miles away from home than me, but I understand when she says how after a cold hard day, it’s the little things you miss. There is nothing better than having my favourite childhood meal when I am feeling down, it’s like an internal hug to the heart.

What is your favourite meal that reminds you of your childhood? I would love to hear what it is.
