Cleaning your home properly from top to bottom can be a daunting prospect; where do you even start? The task is so off-putting that according to a recent study in the Daily Mail, almost half of people aged 25 to 34 years old admit that their parents clean their homes for them. Just 19 per cent of those surveyed admitted they have a cleaning routine for the home and 36 per cent said they simply tidy up after themselves as they go along. Below are some tips to help make sure you’re cleaning your home in the correct way:

Have a plan and make a schedule

Having a plan of action by organising a cleaning schedule will make things much easier. Start by listing all the rooms within your home and roughly bullet point what you need to do in each. This will also give you a good idea about what Click Cleaning products you need to have to hand. Group tasks by how often they need to be done i.e. kitchen – daily, bins – weekly, etc, and then look at how much free time you have to complete the tasks and see if you can delegate to anyone else in the household.

Removing clutter is essential

According to The Express, the average Brit clings on to £514 worth of unused goods that simply lie dormant, gathering dust. De-cluttering your home is essential if you want to keep it clean and tidy. Get rid of things you no longer want or are broken, pack seasonal clothes away into storage and file all of your paperwork rather than leaving it to build up around the home. You can then clean those worktops, shelves and cupboards properly. Your home will instantly feel fresher when you remove the clutter.

Work from top to bottom and left to right

Whatever room you are cleaning, always work from top to bottom and left to right as this is the quickest and most efficient way to clean. You don’t want to vacuum and then get crumbs or dust all over the floor as you work your way up to the dusty shelves or ceiling. Cleaning left to right also ensures that you cover the entire room instead of darting all over the place and missing key items. It will also guarantee you only do everything once.

Think dry, then wet

Start with the cleaning jobs in a room that require dry methods, for example, dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming, and then move on to wet methods e.g. using an all-purpose cleaner or mopping. If you take on this approach, there will be less dirt floating around to cling to the wet surfaces.

Don’t leave a room half finished

If you plan to do one room at a time, stick to it. Don’t leave a room half clean and move on to something else, you’ll only end up wasting time running back and forth and forgetting where you left off. Start and finish at the same spot in a room and then tick it off your list.
