Nintendo 3DS Angry Birds Triology Review

My children all adore Angry Birds, they all fight over my mobile phone yet struggle with the size of the screen. So when I was sent a copy of Angry Birds Trilogy to review for the Nintendo 3DS from Activision, I was keen to see if this would be more suitable. The age range on the case says 3+ and having a nearly 3 year old who is keen to play too I was interested to see what he would make of it. I also have a 8 year old and a 10 year old who are both Angry Birds fans.

First up, the game is easy to load. Simply pop the cartridge in and turn the console on. It is all self explanatory  and even my nearly 3 year old could use the stylus to load the game. For my 10 year old and 8 year old, it was second nature, well they have been bought up with technology.

The opening screen is inviting, and it was great fun as you have to shoot the birds at the relevant item on the menu you want. You use the bottom screen with the stylus, but the birds shoot up from the bottom screen which then carry on to the top screen too. There was no need for them to read the instructions (but there is plenty included should you need them) my kids were far too eager to play, and they had no problems working out what to do.

There is loads of levels to work through on the game, they start off easy which is great for beginners. So you start with the basics, and it builds up your knowledge of what the different birds do, and how to knock down the structures. I think it’s a great aid for hand eye coordination, which is always a big bonus when there is an added element of something useful of something the kids find so fun.

The graphics are crisp and clear, and a major improvement from the mobile phone version. The sound effects are far superior too. I wish the pictures I took could do it justice, as the 3d screen really brings a whole new element to the game play!

This game is going to be a hit this Christmas, for both adults and children alike. I cannot find a bad thing to say about it and trust me, I love to find a negative! Although, obviously I don’t recommend continuous play for hours on end, gotta look after those precious eyes.
