Richard Branson

The Virgin founder’s home on Necker, his £60 million private island, was completely destroyed when it caught fire that was caused by a lightning strike in August of 2011. The island, which is located in the Caribbean, was in the midst of being battered by Hurricane Irene when the lightning strike occurred.

Sabastian Bach

Hurricane Irene claimed yet another victim in the New Jersey home of the former Skid Row lead singer. As with Branson’s home, Bach’s home was a complete loss and was deemed uninhabitable by safety officials. Along with the house itself, Bach lost dozens of irreplaceable items in the disaster.

Tom Petty

In 1987, $1 million in damage was caused by a fire at the Encino, California home of the rock legend.

Evangeline Lilly

In December of 2006, fire destroyed the residence of the Lost actress, located in Kailua, Hawaii. The house was a complete loss. The fire was thought to have been started by a defective electrical outlet.

Barry Gibb

In April of 2007, a house belonging to the legendary Bees Gees vocalist burned to the ground in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The blaze was caused by flammable spray sealer that was being used during the renovation process. Gibb bought the home in January of 2006 for $2.3 million. The house was notable for being the long-time residence of the late country music legend Johnny Cash, who lived there from 1968 until his death in 2003.

Sean Penn

In November of 1993, wildfires swept through Malibu, California. The Academy Award winning actor’s $4 million home was the destroyed. This was the home where Penn had lived with Madonna when they were married. The homes of Mel Gibson, Mark Hamill and Richard Gere were nearly destroyed in the same blaze.

Suzanne Somers

In January of 2007, Malibu was again the site of more wildfires. The home of the former Three’s Company actress was a complete loss. At the time of the fire, houses in the Malibu Colony area were selling for between $5 million and $15 million.

Kenny Chesney

In May of 2010, flood waters surged through the country music superstar’s Nashville, Tennessee home. The flood ravaged the Nashville area, leaving 10 people dead and thousands homeless. The house had to be condemned.

Christopher Lloyd

In November of 2008, the home of the Back to the Future and Taxi star was burned to the ground by wildfires that ravaged much of the celebrity filled area of Montecito, California. The $11 million home contained Lloyd’s large memorabilia collection that he had amassed throughout his life.
