All my three children have attended private nursery since they were under a year old. This is for a few reasons, obviously due to needing to work and earn a wage, but also because I have seen the benefit it has on my children. It makes them outgoing, sociable and teaches them to interact with not only other children but with other adults too. It also is a great way to burn off the extra energy, not to mention an opportunity to indulge in messy play without the hassle of me needing to clean it up! But what when your child hates nursery?
Marky has attended his nursery since he was under a year old and he loved it from the start. There was no crying involved in me leaving, he would happily go to one of the staff for a cuddle while I dashed out of the building. But then Marky recently turned 2 and has had to move to the big toddlers room upstairs with new staff and new children. There is some children from his previous room so it’s not all new, and he did have plenty of settling in sessions up there, but the fact remains that he hates it.
This morning I had to make a massive effort to distract him from the fact he didn’t even want his shoes on (the boy knows shoes means nursery!) All my little lad says is ‘stay home today mummy’. So we had issues to get him into the car, then getting him out of the car and into the nursery was another massive effort of distracting and singing and cuddles. I got him upstairs and into the arms of one of the workers when Mark immediately screamed his head crying, It’s heart breaking hearing it and knowing all he wants is me! It has been a month now that he has been upstairs in his new room. The staff say it is pretty normal and that he doesn’t cry long but I do keep wondering if I should just cancel his nursery and come up with a new plan to work around Marky. I just want my boy to be happy to run into nursery like he used to
